A film night is a perfectly reasonable excuse to build a distributed system. At least, that is how I ended up with one Jellyfin, a k3s cluster spread across friends' homes and a cloud VM, PostgreSQL, and a filesystem called SeaweedFS. I wanted to find out whether the spare machines and disks we already had could behave like one resilient media service. The most useful result was discovering which parts should not fail over.
